Tryptamine is an endogenous amine durived from the amino acid tryptophan via tryptophan decarboxylase. It acts as a serotonin releasing agent and a serotonergic activity enhancer. It is primarily metabolized by MAO-A and MAO-B, and is also metabolized by SSAO.
