3'-(Glutathion-S-yl)-1'-oxoelemicin is the glutathione adduct of 1'-oxoelemicin. It's not known to what extent the enzyme glutathione S-transferase (GST) is involved in its creation. It's possible that this adduct can form spontaneously without an enzyme catalyst, as this is proven to be the case for the very closely related compounds 1'-oxosafrole and 1'-oxoestragole.
The formation of 3'-(Glutathion-S-yl)-1'-oxoelemicin from 1'-oxoelemicin prevents 1'-oxoelemicin from forming potentially psychoactive alkaloids from endogenous amines.
