3-(dimethylamino)-1-(2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)propan-1-one is the dimethylamine alkaloid form of the allylbenzenes gamma-asarone found in some varieties of calamus. Its a possible metabolite of gamma-asarone and is likely to have psychedelic properties in man. This possible metabolite may be the cause of the occasional psychedelic effects attributed to varieties of calamus. Similar metabolites have been proven to form in vivo from the closely related allylbenzenes elemicin and safrole.
